The Social Democrats’ policies for Tyresö

We take Tyresö seriously

The Social Democrats want to build a stronger and safer Tyresö – at every stage of life.

We are working for better school results, safe and high-quality care for older people, and long-term efforts to prevent and tackle crime. Everyone who lives in Tyresö should feel safe, have a say in their own lives, and receive support when they need it.

Our three main priorities are:

• A safer Tyresö
• Better preschools and schools
• Safe and dignified care for older people

What is local politics?

Local politics is about the decisions that affect people’s everyday lives in Tyresö.

The municipality is responsible for areas such as preschools, schools, care for older people, social services, leisure activities, urban planning, and many issues relating to safety and security.

Elected politicians decide which goals the municipality should work towards and how municipal funds should be used. Municipal employees then put those decisions into practice.

For us Social Democrats, local politics is about taking responsibility for the whole of Tyresö. We want the municipality to be there for people throughout their lives – from their first years in preschool to safe and dignified care in later life.

How Tyresö is governed

The Social Democrats are part of the political leadership in Tyresö. Since May 2024, the Social Democrats have governed the municipality together with the Moderate Party.

Anita Mattsson of the Social Democrats is Chair of the Municipal Executive Board, a position often abbreviated to KSO in Swedish.

The Chair of the Municipal Executive Board leads the board’s political work and plays an important role in coordinating the municipality’s development. The Municipal Executive Board prepares many of the decisions made by the Municipal Council and is responsible for ensuring that those decisions are implemented.

Together, we are working to develop Tyresö and take responsibility for the municipality’s finances, welfare services, and future.

A safer Tyresö

We take safety seriously

Safety is about both tackling crime and preventing it from happening in the first place.

We want the municipality, the police, schools, social services, and community organisations to work together. Support should be available early, before people become involved in crime or find themselves in vulnerable situations.

For us, safety is a shared responsibility. Public services must not withdraw when problems arise. The municipality should take a long-term approach, stay close to residents, and implement measures that make a real difference.

We want to:

• Expand preventive work.
• Carry out more outreach work.
• Expand CCTV surveillance in places where it is needed.
• Establish a police station in Tyresö to strengthen the local police presence.

Better preschools and schools

We take education seriously

Every child in Tyresö should have the same opportunity to succeed, regardless of their background, their family’s financial circumstances, or their need for additional support.

We want more adults in preschools, schools, and after-school centres. Student health services should be strengthened, and children and young people should have safe and well-functioning learning environments.

Our goal is for every pupil to leave compulsory school with the knowledge and grades they need to continue their education.

Tyresö Upper Secondary School should continue to develop, offering high-quality education and a broad range of programmes.

We want to:

• Give every child the right to 30 hours of preschool per week.
• Increase the number of adults in preschools, schools, and after-school centres.
• Strengthen student health services and support for pupils.
• Increase the number of pupils eligible for upper secondary school and improve academic results.
• Continue to develop Tyresö Upper Secondary School.

Safe and dignified care for older people

We take care for older people seriously

Older people in Tyresö should be able to live safe, active, and independent lives. They should have a say in the care they receive and in their everyday lives.

Care should be based on each person’s individual needs. Staff should have more time to provide care and spend less time working to strict minute-by-minute schedules.

Staff should have the right training and sufficient knowledge of Swedish to communicate clearly and safely with older people, their relatives, and their colleagues.

We also want to improve continuity of care. As far as possible, people receiving care should be supported by staff they recognise, know, and feel comfortable with.

We want to:

• End minute-by-minute scheduling and give staff more time to provide care.
• Increase the number of places available in care for older people.
• Build a new residential care home.
• Require all staff to have a sufficient command of Swedish.
• Improve continuity and security for people receiving care.
• Create more social meeting places for older people.

We are developing Tyresö for the future

We believe in a cohesive society where people take responsibility for one another.

Through long-term investment in safety, education, and care for older people, we want to make Tyresö a better place for everyone who lives here.
